The second floor of the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre is the home of the Michael Smith Fitness Centre. As a member of the Rec Centre, you can stretch, lift weights, and burn up calories in our accessible, comfortable workout spaces.
Gym rules
Please be patient with staff as we try to provide the best service in these circumstances. Rules are subject to change.
- Maintain social distancing at all times.
- Disinfect gym equipment before and after use.
- Respect gym attendants and fellow gym users.
- Utilize only one piece of gym equipment at a time.
- Return all sanitized equipment to original spot.
- Wear clean indoor shoes only.
- Come prepared in your workout clothes, change rooms are closed.
- Follow all regular gym rules (ie no dropping of weights and no chalk).
- A mask is recommended.
If rules are not being followed you will be asked to leave.
Gym hours
Open seven days a week. Closed on all public holidays.
Monday to Friday
- 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday
- 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Admission requirements
You must be 14 years of age take part in an orientation before you can workout on your own in the fitness centre.

Over 30 workout stations by Life fitness, Hammer Strength, APEX, and Olympic Bars:
- Ellipticals
- Treadmills
- Bikes
- Rowers
And individual equipment pieces:
- Free weights and dumbbells
- Exercise balls
- TRX
- Steps and BOSU
Additional instructions
- All members must check in at reception and be wearing a wristband to enter the Fitness Centre
- No outdoor shoes allowed!
- Members must replace all free weights after use
- Abuse of equipment will not be tolerated
- No food, gym bags or chalk are permitted
- Proper athletic gear must be worn at all times
- Members must wipe down equipment after use
- Please refrain from leaning on mirrors and walls
- Please return all weights and benches to proper places
- Please refrain from loud or foul language
- Please allow members to work in between sets
- Please inform staff of any maintenance problems
- Rules may be changed to maintain standards
