Ticket options
If you are issued a Provincial Offences ticket, you should carefully read payment and trial options on the back of the ticket. Within 15 days of receipt of your offence/ticket – you must select one of the 3 options shown on your offence notice. If you do not exercise one of these 3 options – you will be deemed not to dispute the charge and a Justice of the Peace may enter a conviction against you in your absence. Upon conviction, additional costs will be added to the total payable.
Option 1 - payment
By choosing this option you are stating that you do not dispute the charge and you must pay the total payable on the offence/ticket.
Option 2 - plea of guilty with submissions as to penalty
By choosing this option known as a “walk-in-guilty” you are stating that you are guilty but wish to provide more information about your ability to pay the fine or that you need more time to pay.
Please e-mail the Kenora Provincial Offences court office or call 807-467-2984. An audio appointment will be scheduled for you to speak to the Justice of the Peace.
Option 3 - trial request
If you wish to plead not guilty, you must sign Option 3 on the back of the ticket. You can mail it, email to POA, or drop it off at the POA office at 1 Main Street South, Kenora. You will receive a Notice of Trial by mail or email; please make sure your mailing address or email address is correct on the ticket. If you do not receive a Notice of Trial in 3-4 weeks, contact the Provincial Offences Court office to confirm the status.
