We want your leaf and yard waste for our composting program at the Kenora Area Landfill. The nutrient-rich materials support sustainable waste management and reduce environmental impacts. This is a free service for our residential customers.

- Kitchen waste
- Milled lumber
- Brush
- Stumps
- Tree limbs greater than 25 millimeters
Look for the green bin
April 1 to October 31, drop off acceptable materials in the green compost bin.
Packaging leaf and yard waste
1) Use a compostable or paper bag
2) Empty a smaller container into the green bin.
Do not use a plastic bag.
Large compost loads
If you have more than a bag or two of compost, bring your load through the scale so we can add it to a larger compost pile.

None. This is a free service!

Check at local hardware stores to purchase compostable bags.
Leaf and yard waste is not included in curbside collection.
Our composting process
We transport the leaf and yard waste to Kenora Area Landfill. Windrows are made with the leaf and yard waste. The windrows are turned and watered until they turn into compost. The compost becomes landscaping material at the landfill site.
