If you want to build a fence on your property, you need to follow the regulations in the City of Kenora Fences By-law 163-2015.
Fence height
The fence height allowed will depend on the fencing and its location. Please refer to By-law 163-2015 for specific heights for residential and non-residential properties.
Apply for a variance to the fencing by-law if you need to build a fence beyond the regulations in the by-law.
Swimming pool fences
You need to secure the pool area, if your pool has a possible maximum depth greater than 0.5 m.
Fencing provides a protective barrier to prevent unauthorized entry to the pool area.
- Fence must be no less than 1.52 m high.
- Horizontal and diagonal structural posts must be on the poolside of the fence.
- Fencing must not be similar to a ladder.
- There must be a door or gate equipped with a lock and self-latching device.
- Hedges cannot be used as a fence.
Snow fences
You can put up a fence to control snow from November 1 to April 30 of the following year. You must remove the snow fence by May 1.
Call or click before you dig
You must check with Ontario One Call to locate underground cables, pipes or wires before you dig for any size of project.
