The City of Kenora's Community Energy Plan is a long-term plan to improve energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions developed from facilities, land use planning, growth planning and hydro generation and transmission infrastructure.
Provincial, national international goals
Kenora's Community Energy Plan works to align with provincial, national and international goals to reduce energy consumption and help reduce the impacts of climate change:
- Ontario's Climate Change Action Plan
- Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change
- Paris Agreement
What are we doing
The City of Kenora has identified a variety of ways we can improve energy efficiencies and reduce energy consumption. This includes:
- ongoing LED light conversions for buildings and streetlights
- expanding retrofit practices across Kenora
- developing community engagement strategies that lead to a more comprehensive understanding of energy
We are also looking at ways to reduce energy consumption in:
- land-use planning
- transportation
- waster and waste
