Today, Tourism Kenora launched a special events grant opportunity for organizers of special events being held within the community.
The Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) revenue is intended to be utilized to support tourism and economic development in the City of Kenora. Council has allocated a portion of that revenue to support the volunteers who activate special events in our community. For 2024, Council has approved 32 tourism and economic development projects that will benefit both our residents and visitors to the community.
Interested organizers are encouraged to apply for funding support of up to $5,000 for events that will be hosted between June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025. Application forms and additional information can be found by emailing Tourism Kenora or by dropping by the Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre. The deadline to apply is April 22, 2024.
“The Municipal Accommodation Tax is a source of revenue that allows the municipality to invest in positive tourism and economic development initiatives within the City. Through the MAT, Council has committed $1,054,009 in 2024 which will bring exciting projects and programs to the City. Within these projects we are pleased to include a grant opportunity available to assist in some of the special events in our community”, states Mayor Andrew Poirier.
