The Economic Development and Tourism Department is excited to announce that it has won two Marketing Canada awards. The Economic Developer’s Association of Canada (EDAC) revealed the winners of the 2023 Marketing Canada awards at its annual conference hosted October 2-4 in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
The new Tourism Destination and Economic Development Brand was recognized under the category of Brand Identity which credits creative, memorable, meaningful and consistent brand application. The City was proud to partner with local firm Wake Marketing on this initiative. Identified as a priority activity in the 2021 Five Year Tourism and Economic Development Strategy, the purpose of the project was to develop a brand that is strong and authentic to Kenora, its residents and visitors and that can be applied in comprehensive marketing efforts to support tourism and economic investment in the community.
The department also won an award for its Ken and Nora social media account under the Digital Marketing category. Ken and Nora use an avatar to highlight and promote local businesses and events in an effort to engage the community and market activities and experiences.
“I am proud to celebrate the success of the Economic Development and Tourism team and Wake Marketing,” said Stace Gander, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “It is exciting to be recognized nationally for the creative work of our department and partner and have the opportunity to continue to promote Kenora with the application of these exciting initiatives.”
Kenora was entered into the mid-sized category for economic development budgets of $200,000-$600,000. The municipality had previously won EDAC Marketing Awards in 2018 for its Choose Kenora project.
