Please be advised that current water levels on Lake of the Woods and the Winnipeg River system have caused concern for drop-offs and exposed rocks at public boat launches.
The Lake of the Woods Control Board (LWCB) has indicated that the Lake of the Woods water level is on the lower end of the normal range for this time of year, and the Winnipeg River is lower than usual.
According to the LWCB, last week the lake elevation was 322.46 m (1057.94 ft), a 35th percentile level, for this time of year. The average lake level increased by 3 cm (1.2 in) the week prior and is expected to increase 1 to 3 cm (0.4 to 1.2 in) this week, depending on precipitation amounts. Lake of the Woods authorized outflow is 150 m3/s with no changes scheduled.
On April 10, 2024, the Lake of the Woods outflow decreased to 150 m³/s and this change caused the level of the Winnipeg River to decrease by approximately 3 cm (1 in) directly downstream of the Norman Dam and by 1 cm (0.5 in) above the Dalles. The level at Minaki was not affected by these flow changes.
You are encouraged to refer to the Lake of the Woods Control Board for the most up to date information on local water levels. You can also reach the Lake of the Woods Control Board by phone at 1-800-661-5922, option 1.
With the nice weather and subsequent early onset of the boating season, our free of charge boat launches have been very busy. Please take care and patience when launching your boat until water levels return to normal.
