The Board of The Muse is pleased to announce that Braden Murray has accepted the role of Muse Director, effective May 15, 2023. Braden replaces Lori Nelson who will be retiring after 34 years with The Muse. Braden will oversee both the Lake of the Woods Museum and the Douglas Family Art Centre.
Braden holds a master’s degree in Public History from the University of Western Ontario and has over 13 years of experience working at the Lake of the Woods Museum. He started his career at the Museum as the Educator. His position recently transitioned to Curator. His focus has been two fold school and public programming which has included his very popular cemetery tours, cultural food programs, senior’s programming and speakers’ series, and collection development and exhibits. His recently curated exhibit on the history of Ukrainians in Kenora was an important and well-documented story about a significant and contributing population in the community.
“The Board selection committee did an extensive search for a new Director and interviewed candidates from across Canada. Braden was the unanimous selection of the committee, not only because he was the best candidate, but he has shown a true commitment to Kenora and the community here. Braden has big shoes to fill with Lori’s retirement, but we are excited with the skills that Braden brings to The Muse and what the future holds”, said Robert Bulman, Chair of The Muse Board.
Braden said, “I was born in Fredericton, but I chose Kenora. I look forward to helping our community grow and thrive while continuing the important work of The Muse. The Muse has been recognized provincially and nationally as a centre of excellence in art and heritage. I am humbled to have the opportunity to lead such an excellent team and institution.”
