Please be advised that between the evening of September 16 and morning of September 17 the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant experienced an overflow of partially treated wastewater into the Winnipeg River due to heavy rainfall and pump failure. The overflow was diluted by the heavy rain flows coming into the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and then further diluted by the River waters.
The City immediately reported the overflow to the appropriate regulatory bodies upon learning of the event and commenced cleanup of the impacted soils and vegetation extending into the River shoreline.
The City takes environmental responsibility seriously and is taking every possible step to minimize the impact of this overflow.
