Official Plan, Zoning By-law, and Community Improvement Plan Reviews and Open House
The City is undertaking Official Plan, Zoning By-law, and Community Improvement Plan Reviews. The Official Plan and Zoning By-law Review will result in a new Official Plan and Zoning By-law for the City.
An Official Plan is a policy document adopted by Council under the provisions of Ontario’s Planning Act. As such, it must reflect and be consistent with matters of provincial interest. The City’s current Official Plan and Zoning By-law were approved in 2015. The City is undertaking a review and update of its Official Plan to ensure that the objectives and policies remain current and relevant, and meet the requirements of the Planning Act, the Provincial Planning Statement 2024, and other provincial policies and regulations. The Zoning By-law will be updated to conform with the new Official Plan.
Concurrently with the Official Plan and Zoning By-law Review, the City has also initiated a review of the three existing Community Improvement Plans (CIPs) for Harbourtown Centre, Keewatin, and the Former Mill Site. With assistance from its consultant, WSP, the City intends to replace the existing CIPs with a single, integrated CIP for the entire City of Kenora.
