Keewatin Beach will be re-opening this coming Saturday, June 3rd upon the completion of remedial works from damages caused by last year’s flooding.
Contractors are completing the removal of the damaged retaining wall components, replacement of some dock-end sections and general beach cleanup. Users can expect to see the slope behind the retaining wall exposed for the summer as works continue in this area.
The Keewatin Beach park area will also undergo significant upgrades this summer to include:
- two floating platforms added to the existing dock at the east end of the beach;
- a new L-shaped dock added at the west end of the beach;
- improvements for access to the park;
- updates to the existing picnic shelter;
- additional sunshade, benches, tables and trees.
The City intends to have the majority of the works performed late in the summer to minimize the impact on users of the park and beach area. Minor upgrades may take place throughout the summer during lower traffic periods.
The City is committed to investing in our parks and supporting healthy and active lifestyles. The upgrades proposed for Keewatin Beach will deliver a more accessible and sustainable recreational space for everyone to enjoy for years to come.
