Council approves operating and utility budgets
Council approved the 2023 operating budget, as well as the solid waste and water and wastewater budgets. The tax rates and ratios will be set at the next meeting of Council. View the March 24 Media Release for more details.
Council approves exemption under Sign License By-law
Council approved an exemption under the Sign License By-law to allow for a large (11.8m x 1.5m) illuminated sign to be installed on the Recreation Centre to display ‘Moncrief Construction Sports Centre’ in recognition of naming rights for the facility. The long-term investment of $25,000 annually for 15 years by Moncrief Construction merits noticeable recognition at the facility.
Council approves Site Plan Control By-law
Council approved a new Site Plan Control By-law to align with changes to the Planning Act under Bill 23 (More Homes Built Faster Act) which will exempt developments of up to 10 residential units. Other amendments include removing the requirement for Site Plan Control approval for non-residential development in rural areas, daycare centres anywhere in the City, and for development on municipally owned land on Tunnel Island. For developments in rural areas, Site Plan Control approval will still be required if a development is located on or adjacent to areas of environmental concern, including Black Sturgeon Lakes. Council supports calling on housing and community partners
Council supported calling upon housing and community partners to work with one another and the City’s Community Safety and Well-Being Coordinator, to discuss the feasibility of potential locations for a permanent 24-hour centre (Community Space) in an accessible area to align existing services and supports and identify solutions to gaps in services.
