Council supports an offer to purchase lands
Council supported a staff recommendation to prepare an offer to purchase thirty-eight parcels of land from the Province of Ontario for $3,276 plus HST. The properties, primarily in Lakeside and downtown Kenora, have carried municipal infrastructure (sewer, water, roads, and sidewalks) for many years. This purchase will make the City the legal owner of the lands.
Council strengthens Building Division services
Council appointed qualified building officials to complement the City’s current Building Official staff to ensure the City meets its obligation under the Building Code Act. This appointment allows building services to continue if City staff are away unexpectedly or if there is a complex project that requires a third-party review.
Council approves rezoning application
Council approved a rezoning application for the property at 1404 River Drive to change from an inn to multiple residential dwellings. The redevelopment will provide apartment rental units addressing the affordable housing need in Kenora.
Council approves rezoning application
Council approved a rezoning application for the vacant lot at 216 Matheson Street South to allow for a mixed-use building. The redevelopment will provide commercial space and affordable multi-unit housing.
Council approves seasonal lease in Harbourtown Centre
Council supported a one-year lease agreement with Graham and Graham Trading Co to operate a Beavertail franchise at 117 Main Street South. The lease supports investment in City-owned land and promotes economic activity in the Harbourtown Centre.
