Council receives potential off-leash dog park report
Through a Notice of Motion, Council received a report prepared by the Engineering Division that looked at potential sites for an off-leash dog park for Keewatin. The sites were evaluated on the on-site parking, accessibility, walkability, service availability, shade structure, terrain, identified hazards or risk factors and Official Plan and Zoning By-law designations. The total project cost is estimated at $125,000.00 and could be supported through community sponsorship or other funding programs. The project will be included in the 2024 budget discussions and considered at that time.
Council receives Coker Road report
Council received a report prepared by Stantec Consulting Inc. and with this information decided to reopen Coker Road once the required road maintenance, culvert repairs and drainage ditching is complete. Council directed administration to include the realignment of Coker Road with a 50 km/hr design speed in the 2024 budget discussions. Council approves sale agreement
Council approved a sale agreement with Kenora HK Properties Ltd. for the sale of 117 Main Street South for $135,000 plus HST. The municipal land was declared surplus and authorized by Council for sale. The City of Kenora issued and Expression of Interest (EOI) in May 2023 and the submission from Kenora HK Properties was the only submission. The project includes a restaurant on the main floor with housing units above, supporting economic development growth and additional housing in the downtown core.
Council appoints Kenora Crime Prevention and Community Well-Being Advisory Committee members
Council appointed Cynthia McDougall and Hayley Neniska (alternates) from Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe’iyewigamig (WNHAC) to the Kenora Crime Prevention and Community Well-Being Advisory Committee. Laurel Pirrie’s appointment was rescinded as we received her resignation from the Committee. These appointments were in addition to the already previously appointed members which you may view the full list of members on our Committees and Boards page.
Council appoints Deputy Fire Chief
Councill appointed Dexter Hupe to the Deputy Fire Chief position. The position has been vacant since the former deputy, Dave Pratt, accepted the position of Fire Chief. Deputy Fire Chief Hupe will assist with the overall operation of the fire department and address the objectives from the Fire Master Plan
