Council supports Bill 5
Council supported endorsing Bill 5 – Stopping Harassment and Abuse by Local Leaders Act. This Act will create a process for municipal councils to remove Councillors who violate workplace violence and harassment policies. This advocacy is an important piece of legislation which protects the integrity of workplace harassment policies. This legislation will give municipal integrity commissioners the power to remove a member of Council from office who is guilty of violation of workplace violence or harassment policies.
Council approves Community Safety and Well-Being Coordinator position
Council approved an additional wages budget for the addition of the Community Safety and Well-Being Coordinator to add the position to the City’s core staff complement. Council gave direction to begin recruitment for this position immediately.
Council approves budget for food composting expanded pilot program and appliance supplies
Council approved an allocation of $84,750 (plus taxes) for the FoodCycler expanded pilot program and an additional $10,000 for replacement filters and buckets. This program allows Kenora residents to purchase a FoodCycler unit and replacement supplies at subsidized cost to pilot the food waste diversion solution. The program will reduce the amount of organics headed to the landfill in support of the City’s Sustainability Action Plan.
