The City is proud to announce the launch of its podcast, with the first episode going live today. The new podcast will provide on-demand audio content for Kenora residents to connect with and better understand the municipality.
Hosted by Josh Nelson, Tourism and Recreation Manager, and Megan Dokuchie, Economic Development Officer, the first episode consists of friendly discussion and interviews, little-known ‘Kenora’ facts, balanced with light humour. The podcast format provides an opportunity to tell stories in a more personal and connected way, which cannot be done through other tools such as a website or social media. Storytelling is a priority as the City continues to enhance its communications strategy. People remember stories much more than other types of information, such as data and facts, because stories are more engaging. It offers an opportunity to offer deeper context around current issues, initiatives, and decisions that shape our community.
“The City’s project team is committed to making the podcast reflective of the City of Kenora and to provide information that will benefit our residents,” said Kyle Attanasio, CAO for the City of Kenora. “With the first episode launched and several more in the line-up, we are excited to use storytelling to share broader perspectives on local issues and initiatives, connect with community partners and businesses, and introduce the people who run your municipality.”
In February 2021, the City asked its staff to suggest names for the new podcast project. The winner was Braden Murray, Museum Educator, with Waves: the City of Kenora Podcast – thinking of radio waves, making waves and, of course, waves on Lake of the Woods. Find Waves on Buzzsprout and in the coming weeks on popular podcast apps and Kenora.ca.
“Congratulations to the project team on launching the podcast. The podcast is an engaging platform that allows the City to tell relatable stories and embrace new ways to connect with our residents.” said City of Kenora Mayor Daniel Reynard. “This is a great opportunity for listeners to grow their knowledge about the City’s goals, decisions, and achievements. I hope you make Waves part of your commute or whenever you are on the go.”
Listeners are invited to send in feedback on the topics and issues they are interested in hearing and learning more about to Kenora Podcast. Future episodes may feature audio content based on the suggestions received.
We want to give a big thank you to Kim Kaschor for the technical expertise, Wake Marketing for the logo design, Northern Sounds and Systems for the studio set up, and Mike Procyshyn for the original theme music. Their contributions and support were important to setting this project in motion.
