The City of Kenora has launched a new notification tool to alert transit riders of changes or cancellations to the City transit schedule. For those who rely on the City transit as their primary mode of transportation for work, shopping, and personal errands, it is essential that they know when there are changes to the schedule.
The new platform is simple and easy for everyone. Transit riders text the word “transit” to 1-877-980-2001 to opt-in to the service. When there are changes or cancellations, the rider will receive a short text message providing instant notice.
Once riders are signed up, they will receive text notifications to their mobile device whenever a schedule change or cancellation occurs. Riders must opt-in to receive the massages and can opt-out at any time. Success of the text message service relies completely on riders signing up. All riders who have a mobile device are encouraged to self opt-in for this service.
Maintenance of the transit bus and service operation, including supplying trained bus drivers, is provided by First Student Canada through a contract agreement with the City of Kenora to provide passenger service for its citizens.
The City will continue to publish transit notices on Kenora.ca and social media. The text message is another way for riders to stay informed.
Having a text service will improve transit service experience to reach riders when they are counting on transit service to travel within the community.
