The City of Kenora is pleased to announce the appointment of David Pratt as the City’s next Director of Emergency Services and Fire Chief.
Chief Pratt takes over the reins from the current Chief, Kent Readman, effective December 5, 2022. Chief Pratt has been serving as the Deputy Fire Chief since March 2022.
Chief Pratt has an extensive background in firefighting. He began his tenure in emergency services with the Town of Halton Hills as a volunteer firefighter in 1998. Over his career he has been a full-time firefighter, Deputy Fire Chief, Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Marshal.
Pratt has diplomas from the Ontario Fire College in Fire Prevention and Company Officer, as well as a Bachelor of Applied Arts from Toronto Metropolitan University. He holds several National Fire Protection Association certifications and recently completed the Humber College Fire Service Executive Management Certificate.
“The fire service finds itself in a season of change. I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead the dedicated, professional and well-trained staff who are ready to help keep our community safe” said Pratt.
Chief Pratt will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Kenora Fire and Emergency Services, and the City’s Emergency Management Program.
CAO Kyle Attanasio stated “Chief Pratt is a seasoned and experienced hand that will oversee some significant projects in the fire service including the implementation of our Master Fire Plan, which is expected in early 2023. He has a clear vision for our fire service and has shown himself to be strong contributor and collaborator on our team since his arrival.”
The City’s current Chief, Kent Readman will return to his home community in Southern Ontario to assume the role as Chief and join his extended family and friends. We are thankful for the perspective and leadership Chief Readman brought to the City during his tenure and wish him all the best in his new role.
