City Announces New Director of Planning and Building Services

The City of Kenora is pleased to announce that Janis Pochailo has accepted the role of Director of Planning and Building Services, effective June 5, 2023. 

Janis holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Design (Planning) and has over fifteen years of experience as a Planner, as well as public sector leadership experience. Early in her career, Janis held the position of Community Planner for the Federation of Calgary Communities acting as a liaison between community association members and the City of Calgary, where her role focused on resource planning, land use planning, community development, and heritage and she presented regularly to the City of Calgary on projects and initiatives.   

Most recently, Janis has worked as a Community Planner and as a Regional Manager with the Province of Manitoba overseeing the Steinbach and Morden offices, which are two of the fastest growing regions in Manitoba. 

In 2018, Janis joined the Manitoba Professional Planners Institute as a Council member, and ultimately was elected as President for the 2020 to 2022 term. 

Born and raised in Kenora, Janis is very familiar with the City and is excited about the priorities and direction the City is taking. She is looking forward to applying her expertise in her hometown.

Her experience representing community members will be invaluable as we look to streamline our processes and enhance our customer experience at the City. Kenora is looking to grow and Janis knows from her experience what it takes to make that happen. Janis is a proven leader and we are excited to have her join our team.” 

Janis will oversee both the Planning and Building Divisions at the City of Kenora.
