Over the coming weeks and months the public will see a great deal of activity in the Central Park area.
An Expression of Interest (EOI) was issued in April for the design and development of the new Club and several submissions to the EOI were received. The submissions are now being evaluated, and an RFP will be issued to the short list proponents with an RFP due date of June 10th. The RFP will be evaluated and a contractor selected for the development of the project. Concept design will then be finalized with the successful contractor and construction expected to begin June 28, 2021.
It is intended that the facility will be near completion by the end of 2021 and a grand opening with the public in early 2022.
In addition to the construction of the new Club, Titan Contractors will also be using the Central Park area for staging the 2021 municipal sewer and water works program. Titan will have materials and equipment in the park area as they work through the various infrastructure replacement projects. The public will see fencing removed at the park to accommodate the various project works.
For clarity, the large ball diamond will remain in place for the 2021 season and City staff will continue to keep it maintained during the summer season.
The new site will have a rink surface with a concrete base which will allow for floor hockey and basketball in the summer. The City is also adding in beach volleyball courts (2) which in the winter will be converted into second ice surface. We will also have a bocce ball area on the green space. Once completed, the new enhancements and developments will be a year round beautiful recreation space for everyone to enjoy.
This is an exciting project for our volunteers, community partners and the City and we look forward to the new Central Community Club development in the near future.
