This afternoon, Central Community Club board members along with Mayor and Council officially marked the start of construction at Central Park which will create a brand new recreational amenity in the heart of the City.
The work-site at Central Park is mobilized and ready for the rebuilding Central Community Club. Contractors have started initial foundation preparation and pipe installation. As the ground thaws, excavating the footings for the foundation will begin. This work will continue into May. After the underground work is complete, the next stage will involve building the new clubhouse, outdoor rinks, and landscaping.
This project could not proceed without investment from several community partners, community fundraising campaigns, contributions from the Federal and Provincial Governments as well as City Council which have been instrumental in getting shovels in the ground. The City of Kenora and the Central Community Club Board are grateful for the financial support to bring this exciting community project to life.
“The City is very excited to see the start of this long-awaited project. We know recreation is important in making a strong, vibrant community, and so are community partnerships. We want to recognize Central Community Board volunteers who had the vision and passion for advocating for a new facility so that everyone could enjoy playing outdoors together again.” states Mayor Daniel Reynard.
The Central Community Club executive have been very active fundraising for the new facility and will be kicking off another fundraising drive to cover some construction costs, furniture and some additional features for the Clubhouse. Community donation support is appreciated and you may make your donations at City Hall and a tax receipt will be issued, or for more information email to abcstoragekenora@gmail.com.
The project partners look forward to turning the lights on and reopening the new Central Community Club in the winter of 2022/2023.
