Downtown Revitalization (DTR)

Downtown Revitalization Chipman Street/Mall Area – Project Purpose

Renewing existing downtown streets, namely Chipman Street, First Street, Park Street and McClellan Avenue. Construction of a new direct route from Chipman Street to Park Street through the former Zellers property, with a roundabout at the Park Street and First Street South intersection.

The project includes additional on street parking, new sidewalks , landscaping and street lights, as well as replacement of critical underground sewer, water and storm infrastructure.

Project Schedule and Key Dates

NOTE:  This is a preliminary schedule and is subject to change.

Please avoid the project area, if possible, to lessen the impacts to traffic delays during the summer months.

The week of May 21 – Minimal Traffic Disruptions
Construction preparation begins with mobilization and temporary water service to be established for affected customers in the project area.

The week of May 27 – Pedestrian Disruptions with Minimal Traffic Disruptions
Paving stone sidewalks will start to be removed and security fencing installed which will affect access to the sidewalks and the parking lanes located on Chipman Street from First Street South at the Parkade exit northerly to McClellan Avenue, and also on First Street South between Chipman Street and Matheson Street South.

Monday, June 3 – Road Closures Take Affect
Full on construction begins with sewer, water and storm replacement around the Husky gas station with Chipman Street closed from the south leg of First Street South at Parkade exit northerly to McClellan Avenue, in addition the closure of the Park Street/ First Street South/Mall intersection for purposes of sewer, water and storm replacement and roundabout construction for the month of June.

Bus Stops 50, 51 and 52 on Park Street have been temporarily closed.

Bus Stops 1, 34, and 54 have been temporarily moved to Bernier Drive, near the crosswalk to the Whitecap Pavilion.

Construction is progressing well.
