Sign Permit

A Municipal Sign Permit is required to construct, erect, maintain or alter any sign on municipal property.

The City’s Sign By-law is in place to monitor commercial and non-commercial messages, preventing content of violence, hatred, or contempt against any identifiable group.  The By-law sets out rules for signs and other advertising devices and the posting of notices, including permanent, temporary, or directional signs.

The application for a sign permit is available at City Hall from the Licensing Clerk or in forms.  The completed application will be forwarded to the Commissioner of Signs for review of  classification, location, size, direction, and orientation and whether a building permit is required for the proposed sign.  The appropriate fee will be collected once the application is approved and a permit number is issued.
