We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who live and work within our community to strengthen our existing group of dedicated Volunteer Firefighters.
Volunteer Firefighters attend to many different types of emergencies including; structure fire, water and ice rescues, motor vehicle accidents, bush and grass fire, as well as motor vehicle accidents.
Volunteer Firefighters are compensated. When they have completed a training year and a probationary period there is an additional increase in salary!
Preferences will be given to candidates who:
Able to meet the physical requirements of this demanding position
Familiarity with General Level Firefighting Program would be an asset
Must have a grade 12 diploma or the equivalency
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and a requirement to obtain a DZ endorsement within one year
Hold a current and valid First Aid/CPR certificate
Willingness to commit to a minimum of 2 to 3 hours weekly
Must be able to attend the Firefighter Recruit Training Program — the dates of which will be communicated to applicants
Related experience, up to, but not limited to; nursing, carpentry, and mechanics
Mental alertness, ability to get along well with others, mechanical aptitude, conscientious, dependable and willingness to perform tasks assigned are all considered assets for these positions
The costs associated with obtaining certificates and licenses will be borne by the applicants.

Important Information on Becoming a Volunteer Firefighter
The volunteer firefighter will be expected to respond and work in all types of weather, and less than ideal conditions. You could have to enter hazardous atmospheres and environments. You will be expected to perform duties according to Standard Operating Guidelines.
While the City of Kenora only hires Volunteer Fire Fighters in the Spring and occasionally in the Fall, we accept resumes, cover letters and City application packages all year round. If you have applied for this position and there are no vacancies, you will receive a letter stating you are on the roster for the next hiring blitz.
