Pre-CanSkate

Action, movement and fun! Lessons are given in a group format with a coach-to-student ratio of a maximum 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, upbeat music and a wide variety of activities that create a motivational environment and promote learning. Badges, ribbons and other incentives are used to benchmark skaters’ progress and reward effort and participation.

Age: 3-5 years

CanSkate

CanSkate is a dynamic learn-to-skate program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Based on Sport Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles, CanSkate centres on physical literacy and the fundamental skills needed to take part in any ice sport or to skate as a recreational activity.

A complete series of balance, control and agility skills taught in six stages of learning that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating as well as general recreational skating.

Age: 5-10 years
Dates: October 3 – December 14 & January 9 – March 22
Days/Times: Tuesday & Thursday from 6:00 – 6:45 PM

Pre-CanSkate

Basic skating skills are learned in this program to teach children to skate on their own and progress to CanSkate. Participants will learn to fall down, get up, skate forward, skate backward and stop. All program assistants on ice are trained to assist the coach with skaters.

Age: 3-5 years. 2 year olds welcome to try.
Dates: October 11 – December 18 & January 8 – April 4
Days/Times: Monday & Wednesday 5:15 – 5:50 PM

CanSkate

For skaters about to be or already enrolled in hockey and looking to improve their skating abilities. Skaters will progress through the CanSkate badges and move on to CanPower Skate or Figure Skating. Skaters will be able to skate forward, backward and stop. They will learn to change direction, transfer from one foot to two and follow circuits composed of edges, turns and change of foot movements with speed.

Age: 5 years and older
Dates: October 11 – December 18 & January 8 – April 4
Days/Times: Monday & Wednesday 5:00 – 5:50 PM
Cost: $500

CanPower Skate

Developed for skaters already enrolled in a hockey program seeking to take their skating skills to another level. It brings hockey and skating skills together by first working through skating skills and then incorporating stick handling. Speed and control will be a focus for each skater. CanPower Skate runs before the hockey season starts.

Age: 5-10 years.
Dates: September 11 – 22
Days/Times: Monday – Friday
Cost: $200
