Azhe-mino-gahbewewin / Reconciliation Kenora and the City of Kenora invite youth ages 18-29 to join the Youth Reconciliation Council
April 27 – 28, 2019
Setting Context for Reconciliation in Kenora Two-day Workshop
-First of three phases in the council formation
-Let’s look at the historical context and importance of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.
-Hear testimonials from Indigenous people with lived experiences of colonialism, First Nation leadership, Metis Senators, and Elders, as well as non-Indigenous Kenora residents with experience in Indigenous issues.
-By examining a colonial and often racist past, it will provide a foundation of knowledge that will help us in building relationships for the future.
Participation in this first phase is not a commitment to sitting on the Youth Reconciliation Council. We invite students, community members, and young professionals between the ages of 18-29 who want to work together to attend the Reconciliation in Kenora Context Setting workshop.
If this interests you, but you are nervous, we invite you to challenge yourself and come at least to the first phase workshop. This work will not always be easy, but it is necessary and will build meaningful bridges that our future generations can walk.
Our final contemplative service of Evensong for the season with full choir and local soloists.
ECUMENICAL COMMUNITY CHOIR – EVENSONG
This is our last Choral Evensong for the season. We are excited to feature Brenda Shodin, soprano soloist, and Michael McIsaac, bass soloist, in the beautiful setting of the Song of Mary (Magnificat) and Song of Simeon (Nunc Dimittis), music composed by the late 19th century composer Sir Charles Villier Stanford in addition to some music sung recently by the local church choirs in the Festival of the Arts.
St. Alban’s Ecumenical Community Choral Choir is a mixed-voice choir of women and men open to singers from all denominations, faiths and traditions. The choir rehearses on regularly on Sunday evenings from 7- 8 PM, with the exception of the Easter Sunday (April 21) through the season. St. Alban’s has presented Choral Evensong on the last Sunday of each month through the season at 7pm in the Sanctuary. We will resume Evensong Services at the end of September. We wish to thank all who have attended wishing you a blessed summer break and looking forward to worshipping in the Fall. Regular worship is at 8am and 10 am through the summer.
