KRC Pool Summer 2019 Closure

Please be advised that the City of Kenora will be closing the pool on June 29, 2019 for the month of July.  This closure is in addition to the regularly scheduled closure for the month of August.  The pool will reopen on September 3, 2019

The City of Kenora’s decision to close the pool for an additional month has not come easily. The 2019 budget season was one of the most challenging that the City has seen since the mid-2000’s. Senior staff met on a number of occasions to look at the budget to determine if any changes could be made to lower the tax impact to our residents without impacting City service levels. The result was a draft budget that was delivered to Council that still reflected a significant tax levy increase. Council was also provided with service level options for their review and consideration to help minimize the impact to City taxpayers, either through increased revenues or service level reductions. Council closely reviewed these options very carefully and had to make some difficult decisions. One of these decisions was to close the pool for an additional month. In doing so, consideration was given to any potential impacts on service levels to the users of our recreation facilities.

To minimize the impact of services, a number of programs are scheduled for local beaches. The programs scheduled are as follows:

Prevent Water Liens from Freezing

Please be advised that residents should take measures to prevent water lines from freezing in this extreme cold weather. Ensure there is a heat source where the water line comes in to the home, and cold air drafts are sealed off.

The City is responding to calls regarding frozen lines; however, most water lines are freezing in the walls of homes. Efforts to prevent water lines from freezing may reduce the cost of thawing for the homeowner and avoid the costs for the City’s Water and Wastewater crew to respond.

Water and Wastewater Rate Increase Effective January 2019

To All Consumers of City of Kenora Water and Wastewater Services

Please be advised that effective January 1, 2019, City of Kenora water and wastewater rates will increase by 5.5% for all residential and commercial consumers. The water cost will be set at $1.51 per cubic meter or per 1000 litres. This rate together with the fixed cost and wastewater cost will change an average monthly bill for residential consumption (based on an average of 15 cubic meters of water) from $127.22 to $134.26. This increase will allow the City to continue to replace existing assets, begin to address the infrastructure deficit, and improve revenue stability.

Consumers may direct questions about billing or the rate change to a Customer Service Representative at City Hall 467-2000.
