Two Years Out – Kenora to Host 2017 Canada Summer Games Rowing Venue

Mayor Canfield, Councillor McMillan and City staff attended the 2017 Canada Summer Games media event held at the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg on July 28, 2015.

The media event marked the two years out date of the start of the Canada Summer Games to be held in Winnipeg July 28 – August 13, 2017.   The City of Kenora is one of only two communities outside of Winnipeg to host an event.   The sport of rowing will take place at the Kenora Rowing Club on Rabbit Lake and Kenora’s Summer Games Committee has been working to prepare the venue for summer 2017.

Together with the City of Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba, the City of Kenora will welcome athletes from across the Country to celebrate the Games which have been branded the “Hottest Summer in Half a Century”.   The seventeen day event will embrace over 4,000 athletes and coaches, and more than 20,000 visitors.  There will be 16 sports featured, over 250 events, and a major cultural festival in Winnipeg.

Celebrating the Games’ 50th anniversary and Canada’s 150th birthday, the Games are this Country’s largest multi-sport event for young athletes.
