Council launches “Glad You Are Here” Campaign

City of Kenora Media Release

Today, Council interrupted traffic on Main Street South to ceremoniously encourage residents and visitors to support local businesses who have been significantly impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the support, Council has approved free parking in the Harbourtown Centre for the month of July. Other previously approved initiatives have included amendments to the Commercial Patio Policy to encourage the development of outdoor seating for restaurants in the municipality. To date, these policy revisions have resulted in a number of applications by local restaurants. Following the official kick-off event, Council will have the opportunity to visit some of the current and future sites of these outdoor seating areas.

”We are excited to release the ‘Welcome, Glad You Are Here.’ video which showcases local businesses alongside City representatives sharing the impact of tourism in our community. The video was produced by Matt Kennedy of Upriver Media and features local businesses including Lake of the Woods Sports Headquarters, Green Adventures, the MS Kenora, Tall Pines Marina and the Lake of the Woods Brewing Company. This is a further demonstration of what partnerships can do for our City even during the most challenging times” stated Mayor Daniel Reynard.

The events today align with the presentation of the City’s Economic Recovery Plan, shared at the July 14th Committee of the Whole meeting. The plan details a roadmap to support local businesses and members of the community as the economy reopens. Beyond illustrating measures planned as restrictions are slowly lifted and the risk of COVID-19 subsides, this plan provides a summary of the measures staff have already implemented and continue to remain relevant. The Economic Recovery Plan will move forward to the July 21st Council meeting for approval and implementation.
