Multi Residences Water and Sewer Charges Feedback Opportunity
It has recently come to the attention of the City of Kenora, that several apartments, condos, 55 plus, life leases and similar use buildings are operating with only a single water meter. As a result, the building has only been charged one service fee for sewer and water when in fact many individual residences exist within these buildings. The City of Kenora Water and Wastewater Utility operates on a user pay basis. As such, the intent is that all residential premises should be paying the base service fee for sewer and water in accordance with the General Tariff of Fees and Charges By-Law. Through no fault of their own, these buildings have been under paying. At the April 10th, 2018 Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting a report was brought forward by City Administration to address this disparity. Specifically, that these buildings be charged the base sewer and water rate for each living unit/residence within their building consistent with the General Tariff of Fees and Charges By-Law. Further, that these fees be phased in over the next five years.
This report will be presented to Council at the May 2018 Council meeting for approval by Council. We would encourage you to read the report presented at the April 10th COW meeting and provide comments through the form included below. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the City Clerk at 807-467-2295.
